In the 28 years that I've lived on Mequon Road
I've replaced the mailbox a half dozen times.

It was never vandalism that destroyed the boxes.
Once by the snow plow
Four times by drunk drivers

I tried setting in concrete
I tried using hinges and springs
The last time a drunk destroyed it
I put a bolder in front of it big enough to stop most vehicles
(the police said, "no can do.")

The first three were fairly pricey cedar posts complete with cedar paper
boxes.
The next two I just replaced the broken parts
The last - I finally just picked up an old rusted mailbox on a rusted pipe
set in 3 inch thick concrete disk that I found in a junk yard.
I figured the plow would just knock it over
and the drunks would lose the bottom of their cars
That was ten years ago - no one's hit the damn old piece of junk yet.
The bottom of the mail box is rusting out and will need replacement soon
due to natural oxidation - instead of intoxication.
