Oh Sierra, as they say.  I was thinking of buying the 24-105 as a travel 
alternative to the 24-70, but now maybe not.  Maybe you can ask Canon 
for a quote and whether it can guarantee original performance in your 
case.  A new 5DII and that lens would be about $4k, so it might be worth 
submitting for a quote.  Just a thought.  Wish I had a loaner, but they 
are all film and 4x5 at that.
