Subject: [Leica] Would you buy a Leicaflex SL2 these days?

Hi Stasys,

Well it is 27 F today, unfortunately the warm weather has left us for the
next 4 months. ;( It will get colder as winter moves in on us. Nice to
hear Leica NJ did the battery refurb for you at a decent price. The guy who
did my cables and refurbs batteries is Michael Bass. He does a pretty good
job, and is relatively fast. I think he also did some batteries for Doug
Herr. Anyway here is his e-mail: MichaelBass at charter.net

I need to send in my R8DMR to Leica one of these days, as the motor does not
completely wind the shutter every now and then, I think a capacitor in the
motor is getting weak. This is not a big deal, but an annoyance, since I
have to push the shutter button a second time to get it properly wound. In
the meantime, I have bought a Nikon D700 as a second body and am using some
old manual focus lenses from way back when the Nikon F was their current
camera. I have also 2 auto focus lenses for it. but I prefer using the
R8DMR.

Enjoy that warm weather. Cheers,
Gene

Gene - Hope it's not too cold in Iowa- here is it about 50 F this morning. I
turned in my DMR battery to Leica NJ and they sold me a rebuilt one for
$150- and not their normal $190 price since I had the R9/DMR CLA'd. I have
2 R8's with motor drives and both batteries are shot. What is the name/email
of the guy who redid a battery for you? Leica NJ wants $285 to have that
battery refurbished in Germany. Best, Stasys
