Bleakness, yes. And unintentional irony, too: The email just above Nathan's 
"Unemployment isn't working" was from Williams-Sonoma, entitled "Save $100 
on the Perfect Pan for Flawless Eggs"

Wonder how many of those Williams-Sonoma sells in Ft Wayne...
