The US is a touch behind Europe in fuel economy ;-) A car which gets +40mpg 
is hardly of note where such things have been available for decades... Of 
course the US gallon is smaller than the UK on so those figures aren't soooo 
bad, and manufacturers are to blame as well - why not import Toyota diesels? 
That is probably the most sold on the world market rather than petrol/gas....

I think any car that only gets 18 mpg should be outlawed in this day and age.
