I think you got it just about right. I spent a minute staring at it 
and imagining what 1/3 more exposure would do to it. Decided that the 
top highlight would have clipped and, worse, would have attracted the 
eye.

On the other hand, if you really wanted to mess around with S/W, you 
could have brightened the entire picture and "dodged" down those 
highlights.

The digital sensors seem to have such a tremendous range that small 
changes of exposure can be totally negated by S/W manipulation. 
However, I accept fully the doctrine of increasing exposure up to but 
not beyond the clipping point of the highlights in order to minimize 
the noise.

Great advice for non-moving subjects where you can take your time.
