If it fails, ever, throw it out, and buy another one. Why risk your images on a $20-$40 8-16 GB card? *** Technically speaking - most card's low level firmware now includes wear leveling, meaning that any writes is spread out as much as possible. I bet Leica's advice comes down to limiting the parameters for debugging. If no one formats their cards, then when it happens, they don't have to ask, "did you format your card or not?" and there is no chance of formatting being done on the computer. As a techie that is about to re-release a FAT-16 FS and drivers for microcontrollers, most of the advice you hear from manufacturers really come down to "Cover Their Asses" and make it easier to narrow down any reported problems or blame it on something else so they don't have to work on it. (see, you formatted your card on the computer - that's why it fails!! <-- pure BS) Exactly like reporting a stolen card to the shark/ credit card companies. They don't care that there are fraudulent charges and take the trouble to go after the bad guys. The loss is built into the interest rate they charge you and the fee they charge the merchant. OK, better stop ranting now :-) -- // richard <http://www.imagecraft.com/> // icc blog: <http://imagecraft.com/blog/> // richard's personal photo blog: <http://www.5pmlight.com> [ For technical support on ImageCraft products, please include all previous replies in your msgs. ]
