I have no grain issues even for TriX, looking at a 16x20 print next to me developed in Pyrocat HD I see little to no grain at a normal viewing distance. It's even better with slower speed films. Scanning Pyrocat HD film may be different due to the stain as it is colored. The advice is to scan RGB and convert, I don't remember how important this was to the final image.
