Just a comment on the people photography issue in the other thread: I too am somewhat socially awkward, or shy, something I have to overcome when doing street photography. I have always found that festivals or parades are great occasions for people pictures--not necessarily of the parade participants but just as well of the other spectators. People seem to mind much less at such occasions.
