Subject: [Leica] Spanish Protests 15-M (First delivery)

Valenciano is una tonter?a (a joke). The only place I ever hear it is in 
some god-forsaken inland village. I have never heard it on the street in 
Valencia, Alicante or Benidorm. There is a TV channel broadcasting in that 
language, which I watch from time to time--when they have a football game I 
want to see :-)

Linguistically, it is indeed just a dialect of Catalan. But the difference 
is that Catalan is widely used, including in Barcelona, there is literature 
in it etc. Valenciano is a dying language, being artificially maintained by 
wasting schoolchildren's time learning it instead of something useful like 
German.
