I pulled off I-5 to a side road. No way I'd stand in the middle of I-5!!! 
Wouldn't risk the camera...

In case you don't know, if you look at a map of California, there is one
straight line from around Los Banos to LA, around two hundred miles. The
Nazca Indians couldn't have done it better. I wouldn't be so brave to get
off my car and take photos in the middle of the highway (although I have
been tempted many times), but at spots you should be able to see cars coming
from long way off (the north and south bound lanes are not right next to
each other most of the way).
