Hello Mark,

Do you know the Kodak-publication N-12 >> Close-up photography and
Photomacrography?

On page 2 there is an explanation of the definitions: Close-up-photography,
Photomacrography, Photomicrography and.... Microphotography....

Maybe this helps.....

Regards

Fred Hess

Macro photography has been called three feet or under.
I read that in a pop photo in 1969 I'm sure in one of those columns.
I'm sure in other areas of Earth this is less than one meter.
To 1:1
I think when you get bigger than 1:1 you could be in the micro area
You are making things bigger. Not just getting closer than most glass is
optimized for. Perhaps its defined differently with great authority
somewhere but I cant imagine where.
A macro lens is not just optimsed not for infinity but I think 3 feet it is
flat field. So when you focus at something three feet away in the middle it
is also in focuses at the edges of the field which would really as the crow
flies be longer than 3 feet as its an arc from a circle otherwise..
You wide open your edges would also be in focus.

The problem is there is no official handbook somewhere that is going to be
the place to put a so called definition of such a concept as micro vs.
macro. It may be that its just in the marketing realm.

Is there an IS on it? An INTERNATIONAL STANDARD
Drawn up by the International Organization for Standardization. Which I'd
think there would not be. (ISO)
Unless the ISO people have a PRF - Proof of a new International Standard on
it.
Written up a TS - Technical Specification on it.
A PAS - Publicly Available Specification.

In the end it could be just semantics; as Nikon has been calling macro micro
the whole time and nobody sent them a five dollar ticket to their marketing
people.
Its not the 5 bucks its licking the stamp that gets you.

What's the PAS, Kenneth?
