From what I can tell what people tend to be shooting now underwater as well as in rain and ice storms is: Olympus Stylus Tough-8010 Digital Camera with Deluxe Accessory Kit (Silver) 14-Megapixel28mm 5X Optical Zoom2.7" LCD Screen2GB Internal Memory Waterproof to 33'Shockproof to 6.6'Crushproof to 220 lbs of Pressure Freeze proof to 14?FTap ControlHD Video B&H # OLST8010SK2 B&H Kit Price :$ 393.95 http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1497 Though the sensor is way too small to make me feel all great about it its 7.70mm diagonal. A 7.70mm normal lens. So no its not for serious shooting. It is for if you seriously need an image to come out than you can bring home and look at. serious shooting underwater now implies the use of a housing on a digital DLSR is and they cost well into the thousands of us dollars. Though you could try dollars from Mozambique and see what they say. -------------------- Mark William Rabiner Photography http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/lugalrabs/ mark at rabinergroup.com > From: Ric Carter <ricc at embarqmail.com> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2010 19:18:03 -0400 > To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] Underwater in the Galapagos > > agreed > > bought both a II and III plus 80mm and 35mm since the price dive > > have about $200 in them > > was glad i had it when i got knocked on my ass in the surf this summer > > ric > > On Oct 14, 2010, at 7:00 PM, Lawrence Zeitlin wrote: > >> Alastair, >> If you really intend to take a number of photos underwater, get yourself a >> used Nikonos II or Nikonos III.
