Yeah, that and... as far as I can tell (am I wrong here?), the supported TTL flash metering on the M8 and M9 (manual, GNC, whatsit) does a little pre-pop just before the real exposure. Just like those damned "red-eye reduction" settings on point-and-shoots. So instead of getting the moment you wanted (you've obviously given up on getting the light you're seeing, if you've busted out the flash), anyway... instead of getting the moment you wanted, you get people with that little-bit-after-a-flash-went-off-in-their-face "Wha...?" expression. Which maybe you could make a project out of, but I'm usually not a fan. So 99.9% of the time, I use the light that's already there, and if I really really want to blast away with a flash, I use the old-school '70s Vivitar-283-style non-TTL "Auto" with the flash's own sensor. -Jeff
