I thought so too, but I inquired of the Metz distributors and was 
informed that Guide Number Control [TTL] is a function of the _Manual_ 
mode with the M8/9. So then:

M9 on, then Metz on.
Select "M" with mode button
While "M" _still blinking_, rotate wheel CCW one step. "GnC" will 
appear, and you're good to go.
