Actually, that's what I was getting at. Selection can be really sloppy. Real 
easy- 30 seconds for complex stuff (branches, hair, etc.). Then you use the 
refine button at the top in the selection tool bar. The feathering there 
lets 
you apply gradient to the effect.
It's really quite easy and effective. Charles Cramer gives a tutorial of 
this 
technique on Luminous Landscape here if you're interested:

Really powerful technique and I was just wondering if it could be used with 
this 
software...
