Subject: [Leica] Photographers as terrorists

Years ago, Yael Joel, then a photographer for Life Magazine, told me that if
you want to photograph a controversial event, use the cheapest looking
camera you can find. At the time he was shooting a lot of Vietnam War
protests. The police stopped and hassled all those photographers using
expensive looking Rolleis, Leicas, Nikons, and Canons but never questioned
people using old Kodak Brownie Hawkeyes or Instamatics. He had an old
gutless box camera with an automatic 35 mm camera inside. I believe it was a
Robot. He could stand on the sidelines of a protest and snap away, literally
putting the camera in people's faces, without any comment from police.
Don't blame the TSA for stopping that guy in the hoodie. That long lens
could well be a RPG launcher. It's been done before.
