Hi Gene,
Your choice of the D700 is among the best. Certainly the D700 is the  
best digital SLR I have ever owned (and I have owned a stable of  
Canon, Olympus and other Nikon ones). Your purchase timing is becoming  
good as the D700 is getting long in the tooth in digital years, having  
been in the market for 18 months. A new model will likely be announced  
at Photokina and then the D700 should be available at a discount. I  
don't think you will be disappointed. As Jayanand has reported I set  
mine at auto ISO 6400 and forget about it.
