I don't use that because for backpacking the wheels just make it heaver. But 
if 
I ever take any of my larger kits traveling (like you describe), it will be 
ThinkTank number 4...

removeable laptop case can be packed with all the items you need during 
flight & 
removed when backpack is put in the overhead. i like that it's completely 
rectagular too, no wasted space.
