and I agree that 24x36 doesn't represent the holy grail.

My 24x36 5D sensor does not out perform my smaller DMR sensor
(except at ISO higher than 800).

Point is, when considering top level results:
Size of sensor matters.
Cmos or CCD matters.
Bit depth matters.
Sensor's ability to render fine detail matters.
Dynamic range matters.
It's the unique combination of the above factors
that ultimately matters.

If a small sensor gets "you" where "you" want to go - great.
