Maybe you have chosen a tripod that is stable enough to do that.

When young and (more) foolish, I chose my tripod based on weight, because I
did not like to carry a heavy one around.

I still feel that way, but I know now that if you need a tripod, you need
one that will not shake when you squeeze the button.
