Thanks for your kind words Jim.
Actually I live in the same world as you.

Relatively high ISO 400 for maximum shutter speed and f:stop
and stalking as needed.
This particular fellow (the damselflies keep their wings parallel to their 
bodies)
certainly flitted around as you'd naturally expect;
probably sat at 6 different locations within the minute before he flew away 
altogether.

He seemed glued to the plant when first spotted but of course I didn't have 
a camera.
I watched him for nearly a minute before I went in the house for the camera.
When I came out he was still there.
As soon as I began to frame the first shot
of course he was gone - before I could even get a shot off.
