there are a large number of bands that allow, even encourage, private taping 
of performances. there is a swapping community around these bands--selling 
the music is NOT allowed.

the bands see this as a marketing/advertising tool, encouraging concert 
attendance sale of product

the grateful dead pioneered the concept
