Screen protectors are generally made of a plastic film that is intended to be scratch resistant. The only way it would be of aid in impact would be to contain small slivers of the plastic/glass piece much as the plastic in your car windshield. I don't know of any that would be of any assistance in impact, other than the hoods when folded. And anyway, if that's a concern, you should probably reconsider you camera handling habits first. I got my D3 within months of its introduction, and it still looks perfect, even after years of use in refineries and chemical plants, and a trip to Africa and one to Italy. I did get the Giottos glass scratch protector for my M9, and it's great. Bill Pearce
