My experience with recently picking out a GPS for my car.....

Get a model that will allow you to use foreign maps..... some models do not
allow this option.
Get what features you need and nothing more..... Bluetooth? Lane
advisories? Etc. There are a lot of models with minor differences.....

I bought a Garmin.... 260.... Because it is supported on the open market
with a set of mapping programs that allow other than "official" Garmin maps
to be used.....
These maps are available for Europe and New Zealand at least.....
It also allows for 1 free update.... nice touch.....

I had a Magellan, it never worked right
My brother has a TomTom, which would not use the official TomTom Europe
maps....
