Right you are, I misremembered. Indeed, I was about to type $1000 and then I
thought, no, that can't be, you must be thinking of something else.  B&H has
it for $1099 and it'd be quite rare for any retailer to undersell them.

However, that said, I just checked, and a number of sellers are offering it
"new" on e-Bay for $999 Buy It Now; one for less than that but for a lens
that's apparently used; and there is one auction with a day left, only 1
bidder, and it's at $800. Owner says it was never used.... though you never
know with e-Bay.  Here's that url:
