Enough of snow and ice. This just came in over the Internet:

"AMERICA'S CUP - RACE 2

Valencia, Spain (February 14, 2010) - After a lengthy postponement, the

second race of the America's Cup commenced at 16:24 in six knots, with the

challenger BMW Oracle Racing winning the contest. The race victory gave the

American team a 2-0 sweep of the defender Alinghi team to win the 33rd

Match."

These boats are a far cry from those pictured in the Lug. The BMW boat is a
trimaran with a wing sail. The Alinghi boat a catamaran with a fully
battened sail. They bear about the same resemblance to a conventional
sailboat as does a Ferrari to a Volkswagen. Both will exceed a speed of 30
knots in a mild breeze. All of which goes to prove that if you are a
billionaire you can commission a sailboat that is useless for any endeavor
but a single race. Me, I would rather spend my billions on a brace of Leica
M9s and a few lenses. They might even be a bit cheaper than the boats. But I
guess all grown up boy's toys are expensive. And not to diss Tina, girl's
toys are expensive too.
