Well, the E-3 is the "semi-pro" but it is rather large. I mean it's no
larger than the D700, so it does not show the small size advantage of
the 4/3 system. So I know you will not want that.

OTOH, it's built like a tank. Supposedly E-5 will come out at some
point, but there's no indication that it will be smaller, and that its
schedule may be pushed out due to the popularity of the Micro 4/3.

There's a "complete" 501C w/ A12 back/ 80 lens for $1000. I am going
to see if I can get a CM for about that price before I jump.
