Batteries Plus in Pittsburgh called today and said that they CAN replace the cells in DMR packs. He said the final package won't be as pretty as a new one, since they have to cut into the pack. But he said they do this kind of work frequently and thus generally know what they are doing. He said the cost of the replacement would be US$64, plus (I presume) shipping. That sounds like a fair deal, especially since it'll protect our investment in the DMR's going forward. For those who are interested, I'll keep you posted on the results. A rep at Batteries Plus said they can't rebuild the Li-ion battery for the DMR. He said that the Li-ion batteries must be rebuilt/replaced in a clean room, usually by a machine. He explained that the batteries tend to explode, so they don't work on them. He also said that once the sealed case is cut open, the likelihood of it all going back together again and slide back into the DMR may be a problem anyway. He said that he has sent only one Li-ion battery for this kind of service to David Speer, who owns the Batteries Plus franchise in Pittsburgh. He said that it cost a lot of money to get the battery replaced/renewed, so it is indeed possible to replace cells. I'll call David Speer tomorrow to see what they've got there that can rebuild battery packs that the rest of Batteries Plus won't touch, and I'll keep you posted. I'm guessing that the batteries that you've had rebuilt for your Nikons are not of the Li-ion type. Might take a little convincing as some franchises are more open than others. They do an excellent job and it runs $25 per pack!...
