Republican liberalism is not an oxymoron. Those whose memory goes back to
the Jurassic will recall that the only coherent liberal philosophy that the
Republicans espoused in the 20th century was in the Rockefeller wing of the
party. In fact, in New York State to be a Rockefeller Republican was only a
short step to the right a being a Communist. He was an excellent Governor
and probably would have made a good president. Too bad he divorced his wife
of 30 years and married a younger woman with whom he was carrying on an
affair. Then he had the bad judgment to die of a heart attack while having
sex with a girlfriend. If it wasn't for these dalliances, he could have been
another Kennedy. Or maybe not.Larry Z
