I say in most conditions since I am sure experts can come up with circumstances favouring film. I would not worry too much about available formats nowadays. if 35mm film was good enough for what you are doing, the latest 4/3 digital would equally suffice, if you used a Hasselblad, try a Nikon D3x, and for landscapes some specialists are going MF digital, though the technical requirements to achieve the superior potential are exigent, as per the links I posted the other month. Sure bigger format is better as it always has been, but the relative requirements have changed. The Minox with its 8x11 mm bit of film is dire compared to P&S digital with sensors smaller than this, despite its precision.
