In the past instead of using a neutral density filter which I've always had
moral issues springing for I'd use a polarizing filter which I'd sometimes
think of as a neutral density filter which was not so neutral. A kind of non
neutral density neutral density filter.
A neutral density filter which yes darkens you image but really GETS in
there and does something intensely interesting!
And yes with a rangefinder camera what you get will be more interesting than
what you saw. I sometimes just let it do its thing.

I mean really. Would you wear sunglasses which were non polarized?
Not me!
I mean who wants their light waves going just any which way?
