Tina,

a. Could you use a short male to female USB cable to avoid putting stress on
the USB plug in the main unit?  I think I will try this since the USB plugs
in the case do look flimsy, and I keep most of my drives unplugged from the
PC or power.

b. I have been looking at Acronis for the purpose of imaging the C drive
with the OS and programs.  In theory if the C drive fails, you can then put
in a new drive and restore the OS and all your programs from the drive image
(say on an external HD) without reinstalling everything.  Have you tried
that?
