The Nikon's film to flange distance is very close to the Leica's, so an 
adapter is not practical. Hence the mount itself  has to be changed, either 
on the body - a major undertaking -  or on the lens.

With an EOS body the difference in flange to film distance between the R and 
EOS mounts is sufficient to accommodate an adapter.
