Harvey's 777 or PPD require no greater care than any darkroom chemical - PPD is similarly hazardous to metol. Maybe there is one circumstance in which you might need to be more than averagely careful with it - that's if you are allergic to it. Allergies to products such as this are usually initiated by exposure, so avoid that. 777 should come with an MSDS (in Australia it is illegal to ship a chemical product without one - not sure in the US and elsewhere) which will have safety instructions. If you follow these the risks will be minimised. For industrial uses, PPD is described as a "low toxicity diamine" here: http://www2.dupont.com/Specialty_Chem_Intermediates/en_US/products/ppd.html An MSDS is here: http://www.sciencelab.com/xMSDS-p_Phenylenediamine-9926499 As for everything, wear gloves, avoid breathing the dust (wear a mask when mixing, clean up any spills before they dry) and generally make sure you don't come into contact with it.
