The same thing happened at my house - except that it was my 9 year  
old's permanent front tooth that got shattered. Endodontia for root  
canal and cap. Out of pocket was about $1000, as I recall. Neighbors  
never offered to pay, or even asked how much it cost. I didn't bother  
trying to get reimbursed- blood out of turnip situation.
