It's in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in California... an hour northeast of Sacramento... two-plus hours northeast of San Francisco.... It's called the Gold Country because of the Gold Rush in 1849 that brought so many people to California. With gold rising in price, there's talk of reopening some of the old mines...
