I thought the hotshoe was invented for Pocketwizards?


I was walking through Jackson Square Saturday night, man says "he I bet you 
I know where ya gots yous shoes at". I said "oh no, these are not my shoes".

They all think nowadays, the kids, that the hot shoe has always been hot.
And was invented for flashes.

Did they do their Leica homework? No! why should they they are shooting with
a Canon or Nikon.

If they had they'd know it was invented for viewfinders not flashes.
They came WAY before flash and no one I'd think ever put a flash powder
holder in one.

My thought is:
Did Leica really invent it?
Was it Barnack? I'd think not.
But was it Leica at all?

I'd like to know for sure.
