The compatibility issue is of most importance... with new lenses in the $5K
range each ( prices of recent fast M lenses ), a new system with AF and all
the goodies of 4 lenses is a basic investment of a few tens of thousands of
dollars. Ain't chicken feed. What helps render that point not so bad, is
the useability of the older R lenses..... Some new with AF and others
older ( and maybe already owned) for MF makes the expense much less, and
opens up the new system to many more people....

If the aperture connections render the R lenses on an R10 to be basically
the same as R lenses on a Nikon or Canon DSLR, then the reason to buy Leica
R 10 is the quality of the images compared to the Canon/Nikon body. Now we
have a horse race...... and maybe. In this case, good enough is really good
enough.

It would be a horrible mistake to make the older R lenses not fully
auto-aperture compatible with the R10.

I doubt very much if I will ever buy a new R outfit if
the compatibility
of old R lenses is no better than fitting R lenses with Nikon mounts
on Nikons (i.e. no
auto diaphram).
