What George said, but also I see plenty of posts on wedding forums where the 
24-70 seems to back focus on 30D and 40D's. They end up sending in both lens 
and both to calibrate both, which if under warranty Canon should do for 
free.

Ruff test:
Lock it down on a tripod.
Pick the center focus spot.
Focus on 18" on a yard stick at 45?
This should indicate whether the lens is back focusing, front
focusing or dead on.
