Subject: [Leica] IMG: A Different Way to Use Leica-R Lenses

I enjoy the convenience of digital cameras, but lugging a DSLR with a zoom
lens is not my idea of a day out taking photos. In searching for a prime
lens to place on my Oly E-510, I wanted something near normal FL and also
capable of producing good images. I also wanted something that would not
blow my personal budget. In looking at Leica-R lenses, I preferred a
Wetzlar lens. This led me to rule out the Elmarit-R 24 and settle on the
Elmarit-R 28/2.8.

>From less than 24 hours with this combination, I will offer these comments:

Pros: Good balance when being carried on a neck strap. Very good images.
Focuses down to 12 inches.

Cons: All-manual lens operation. Less than ideal focusing through the
finder. Better, but awkward, focusing using Live View.

I am beginning to master the focusing effort through the finder. With the
28mm FL, zone focusing using the DOF scale also works well.

Two views of the combination are shown here:

Comments and critiques welcomed.
