Having seen several interviews with Axelrod, I think the one they chose
really captures his character.  You can see one of the cookie poses in the
backstory, and if I didn't know what he had in his hand, I'd certainly think
it was something else.  Emanuel is also a great capture of the guy; you can
almost his short fuse getting ready to go off.   I also loved the Gates
shot, (having come from a military family.)  Nichols and Cole were really
neat.
