However, there are a lot of other cameras I like
using. Sinar 4x5's are the epitome of well
thought out, elegantly designed view cameras;
Mamiya 645's are wonderful aerial cameras, Noblex
are great for 14? panoramas as are the Roundshots
(and if anything, the latter are better made than
the Leicas).
I also like the handling and feel of the latest
D200, 300 and 700 Nikon DSLR's; old Nikon F2's,
Canon F1's and Konica Autoreflex T3's. Rollei
35's, Olympus RC, Yashica 44's, Rolleiflex's,
Koni-Omegas, Technika's and dozens more.
There are also many things I like about the Canon
DSLR's, and that's why I have them and will
continue to use them.
It's just that since I already paid the money for
Leica glass, the M8 makes sense. I wasn't all
that keen on getting one, but I had a chance to
try out a pre-production one and I was convinced.
I was so convinced, in fact that not only did I
get a fairly early one, I also got a second one
used as a back-up. A very good decision on my
part.
I'm sure that eventually there will be something
to lure me away from the M8; hopefully an M9, but
possibly a Zeiss digital or Nikon digital RF. Who
knows? But in the meantime I am very pleased with
the M8, and I am delighted with the files as they
come from the camera.
I won't stop using the Canons, but the M8 and
it's lenses are my favourites and this truly is
not about not being able to see past the red dot,
as anyone who knows me and my photography can
attest to.
