I agree, and I am also frustrated that on Canons the 
default on manual is to have the front wheel work the shutter, 
and the back wheel control the aperture.  This seems counter-
intuitive to me.  The front wheel should be for the lens, and the back
dial (right behind the shutter!) should change speeds.  At least the
1D MkII has a custom function to reverse this; but on my 30D, there
is no similar CF, so I'm always turning the wrong dial when I to change the 
f/stop.
