Firstly, you don't know me, so let me tell you that I am not given to making bogus statements just to make a point. If I were a user of throw-away, or replicable, cameras and optics and could write off damages or losses as a business expense, I wouldn't care so much about protecting my gear either. You need to be aware that a working pro and a non-pro will see this issue very differently. As a non-pro who has to pay for gear with devalued post-tax dollars, you are not going to catch me using a Contax 21mm DIstagon or a chrome finish Leica Historica Tri-Elmar without filters mounted on the front. Regarding the rarity and value of these items, I'm sure one of our resident collectors will be able to provide you with full particulars. Next time the NYLUG meets remind me to bring along an 82 mm Contax filter that was scratched up when mounted on a Vario Sonnar. Then there was the 67 mm UVa that was mounted on an 80 Summilux and was smudged by a toddler's [not mine :-) ] ice cream cone. No amount of cleaning could clear up the residue and I ended up discarding it. Secondly, what are you taking? If prescription, increase the dose; if non-prescription, I strongly recommend reducing the dosage ;-).
