I don't have my old speed in front of me, but if i remember correctly,  
you use the thing that looks like a clock winder to move slits into  
position. shutter release moves that slit across the film plane and  
moves the next into position. They are all on a single continuous roll  
of curtain. a letter pops up in the little window telling you which  
slit is set to fire next

the small metal knob changes spring tension

use the little table of letter/number combinations to determine  
shutter speed.
