We have a number of yards out here that get a steady supply of 240
models. What really did me in was the mpg. Our gas bill was $2000+
extra due to the price at the pump. I'm sure it will got to $5.00 by
summer. This was my fifth and last Volvo. And I did have a Saab at
one point.
I replaced the trany very recently on the 240. A sweet shifting
4speed borg. It shifted better than my new car's trany. Never mind
new computers, 1995 modified versions, all new engine front seals and
rear seal, Jaguar injectors, new rotors, the list goes on.
It's my only vice, working on a car, having grown up in Southern
Cal's car culture, it's hard habit to break.
I switched to a Versa. It's actually roomier in the back for the
kids. Though I have to admit, I was momentarily tempted this morning
to buy a service manual for it. I think this is the first car, out of
around 50 that I've had, that I'm not carrying a tool box in.
