If you have a 50mm 2.8 Elmar-M, collapse the lens and measure the  
distance from the inside surface of the lens mount to the end of the  
collapsed lens barrel. The clearance between the lens mount to the  
shutter of the M8 is just about 1 inch. My 5cm/3.5 LTM Elmar extends  
27/32 inch into the body. It has the longest collapsed extension of  
all the lenses I own. Get out the ruler.
