Steve, how about a suitable size and colour Panduit strap? I'm not sure what 
you call them over there. Cable ties? Zip ties?

so what do you use to keep them from collapsing?

Yeah, yeah....I know, rubber bands...so what else is out there that  
will work,

and guarantee that they won't collapse,  and screw the pooch?
