A couple of items are in play.  First, there are almost no independent
camera shops any more; they are almost all chains that deal directly with
the manufacturers so there is no reason to do any serious business at the
convention.  Second, with the demise of 4x6 prints most shops are in real
cash flow deficit; books, calendars, slide show DVD's, or anything else is
being tried but the numbers at this point are not quite there.  Three, most
consumer electronics are shown at the CE show which was just a few weeks
earlier: see point one for big box stores.  Last, the digital P&S market has
pretty much spiraled into a commodity business where margins are not much
and the churn is huge with dealers not stocking much inventory as if has
been discontinued the value is almost zip.
